Gas Spill Cleanup Near Leggett Could Take Several Weeks

Officials say the cleanup of last week’s gasoline spill in Menodino County will take weeks. A gasoline tanker overturned on Highway 101 north of Leggett last Tuesday morning, spilling about 2,000 gallons of gasoline on the roadway and into the ground next to it. According to the county’s Environmental Health Department,
the soil and asphalt that are contaminated by the gasoline must be removed to prevent the spread of the contamination. This type of removal process usually takes weeks or months depending on the extent of contamination.
