FEMA Increases Funds for October Wildfire Debris Removal

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced this week that federal funds for October wildfire debris removal were increased and authorized at 90 percent of total eligible costs. In response, Congressman Mike Thompson said he’s proud that the California delegation came together in a bipartisan manner to ensure that communities have the additional resources they need to recover and rebuild. Back in October, when the president issued a major disaster declaration for the state, the federal government’s cost-share for debris removal was 75 percent. Representatives Thompson and Jared Huffman worked with House leaders in Washington D.C. to increase the federal cost share to 90 percent as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act that was signed into law on Febrauary 9th.
