Man Who Struggled with Officers Takes Plea Deal

The man who got into an altercation with Lake County Deputies prior to Deputy Rob Rumfelt’s death, has reached a plea with the District Attorney’s Office.

On Aug. 22, Lakeport Police officers and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic violence call in Lakeport. 22-year-old Alex Michael Castillo, of Nice, had reportedly assaulted his girlfriend and tried to take a child.

Castillo has pleaded guilty to making threats, resisting an officer, felony child endangerment and felony inflicting corporal injury on another person with a prior conviction.

Castillo had faced a manslaughter charge, but the DA determined it would be too difficult to prove that the struggle with Castillio caused Deputy Rumfelt’s medical condition. Castillo faces a maximum of five years and eight months in prison.
