Appeal for Dollar General in Clear Lake Riviera Area Denied

The Lake County Board of Supervisors approved the appeal for a Dollar General store project in Middletown last week. But this week they denied the developer’s for a Dollar General in Kelseyville’s Clear Lake Riviera area.The proposed site for the store was at 9781 Point Lakeview Road. Planning commissioners initially determined the store did not meet the design guidelines of the Rivieras Area Plan, and didn’t meet the spirit and intent of that plan for promoting small, local business.

Clearlake Police Investigating Sex Assault

The Clearlake Police Department is investigating a report of a sexual assault that the victim says happened last week. She told police she was sleeping in her car when a black male in his 20s, wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, entered the car and assualted her. After the assualt, he reportedly stole her car, which was recovered in Glenhaven.

Caregiver to be Sentenced in Elder Abuse Case

A former caregiver who lived in an apartment with the mumified remains of her client for at least a month before the discovery was made by Fort Bragg Police, has pleaded no contest to felony elder abuse. 56-year-old Lori Diane Fiorentino faces a maximum of four years in prison when she’s sentenced May 11th.

Landslide Forces Closure of HWY 101 North of Leggett Again

The landslide north of Leggett became active again and forced the closure of Highway 101 last night. CalTrans engineers will survey the scene today and provide updates.

All 7 Suspects in Laytonville Murder Case Plead Not Guilty

All seven suspects in the November killing of a Laytonville cannabis farmer pleaded not guilty to charges in Mendocino County Superior Court yesterday. Each of the seven men accused for in the death of Jeffrey Settler, has a separate defense attorney. Defendents Gary Blank and Michael Kane are charged with using a knife in the fatal attack on Settler. The preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for August 14.

Arrests Made in Clearlake for Trespassing and Unauthorized Camping

City of Clearlake officials say several people were arrested late last week as the city steps up enforcement for trespassing and unauthorized camping on land surrounding the former Ray’s Market. The City Manager says they are working working with the new owner of the property to clean up the area as part of an effort to attract new businesses. Last Monday, a 72-hour notice was issued to individual on the properties and was posted at every encampment. On Friday, six people were arrested for trespassing and unauthorized camping.

New Stadium Lights Going In At Upper Lake HS

There was a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday l for the beginning of construction on new lighting for the stadium at Upper Lake High School. The Booster Club, school district, and community have spent about 10 years raising money and planning the project. The light installation is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Traffic Flowing Again at Site of Slide on Hwy 101

Traffic is flowing again at the site of the slide on Hwy 101 north of Leggett. Caltrans made the official announcement late yesterday afternoon. Crews worked yesterday to install a catchment fence atop the K-rail at the bottom of the slide, which will catch any small debris that falls down the hillside. Spotters will be watching the hillside 24/7 for rockfall and will alert to flaggers to briefly stop trafffic if needed.

2nd Annual Career Fair Tomorrow in Willits

The Willits Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Willits High School for the 2nd Annual Career Fair tomororw from 8 a.m. to noon in the Willits High School Gymnasium. Over 500 students from the high school and other local schools will get the opportunity to get to know local busineses and explore the variety of career options available in Willits.
