Leaky fire hydrant in Ukiah

Old piping may have been the cause of a leaking hydrant that flooded some streets in Ukiah. It happened at the corner of Peach Street and South Orchard Avenue Friday afternoon. The city’s Water and Sewer Department says they tried to shut off the valve to the hydrant by digging through the mud that the hydrant sank into, but had no luck. The water was then shut off at Peach Street. The Department says around 5,000 gallons of water was lost. The hydrant was to be replaced today.
