MCSO Confirm Fatal Incident

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Offices is confirming there was fatal incident with a suspect in Point Arena. The California Highway Patrol and the MCSO responded to a report that a man had robbed a victim of a diaper back and then threw large rocks almost hitting the victim. A CHP Officer located the white male adult suspect, later identified as Daniel Saulsbury, near the scene of the robbery.

An MCSO press release says when the CHP Officer attempted to detain Saulsbury a foot chase ensued mixed with moments of active resistance by Saulsbury. The CHP Officer requested emergency assistance. Deputies arrived – and during the attempts to apprehend Saulsbury the CHP Officer and two Deputies deployed their TASERs. Shortly after being apprehended Saulsbury began to show signs of medical distress. Medical aid was immediately rendered by medical personnel who had been called to the scene just after Saulsbury’s apprehension. Saulsbury was subsequently pronounced dead after live-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

As a result of Saulsbury’s death, the Mendocino County Officer Involved Fatal Protocol was initiated and the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office has assumed jurisdiction over the investigation into the incident. A candlelight vigil for Saulsbury was held last night on the corner of Mill & Main Streets, Point Arena.
