Delayed opening for homeless shelter

The opening of a winter shelter that was expected to serve the area’s homeless beginning Monday will be delayed, Ford Street Project Director Jackie Williams said this week. “I’m being told it’s about a two-week delay at this point,” said Williams, explaining that the shelter’s bathrooms need to be repaired before the facility can begin housing people again. The Ukiah Daily Journal reports, With both the City of Ukiah and the County of Mendocino pledging $26,200 to fund the shelter, and the county’s Health and Human Services Agency contributing $60,000 to make the necessary bathroom repairs, Williams said the necessary funding is in place.
