Buddy Eller Center to Close

Ukiah’s homeless shelter will close after all. Executive Director Jacqueline Williams recommended the closure to the Ford Street Project and Ukiah Community Center unified board of directors yesterday. The Buddy Eller Center is losing $9,000 every month. In addition, Williams said the shelter doesn’t require clients with substance abuse problems to stop drinking or using to stay. Her plan for a newly redesigned shelter space will only be available to those who pass drug and alcohol testing. A committee will also work to expand the non-profit’s drug and alcohol addiction program and reduce the number of beds for other clients. The newly redesigned shelter housing is projected to open November 1st.
